What Is Intuition (and how can you truly connect with yours)?

When I look back on my life, I see moments when I knew something—without logic, without proof, but with a deep inner certainty. This is intuition: the quiet voice of the soul whispering in your ear even when the world is shouting something else. Intuition is not mystical—it’s part of us. It’s the wisdom of your inner guide, the echo of your highest self, the navigation system for your soul. But it’s like a muscle: it must be practiced, nurtured, and trusted.

I’m reminded of this most when I’m with my granddaughters, Elowyn and Kiera. As we play, their curiosity leads them to discoveries I’d long forgotten. They trust the unknown, reach for the unexpected, and let their hearts guide the moment. In their presence, I am reminded that intuition is playful, gentle, creative.

So, what is intuition exactly—and how do we deepen our connection with it?

  • Intuition is a guiding inner voice. A spiritual connection to love and truth within you, an inner knowing—silent, subtle, and wise.
  • It’s a “sense of knowing”.  It often speaks through feeling, imagery, sudden insight, or that soft inner nudge.
  • It’s not your ego’s plan; it’s your soul’s guidance.
  • When fear and doubt quiet down, intuition can shine through.

Motivational speaker and life coach Gabby Bernstein speaks beautifully to this. She says, “Much of our anxiety and stress comes when we’re focused on fear and disconnected from the voice of our inner guide.”

She also teaches that surrendering control and trusting the unseen is part of the path to living with ease. When we align with that inner voice, life begins to feel less forced—and more like a dance with spirit.

Six Ways to Deepen Trust in Your Intuition:

Silence the Mind
Space is required for whispers to be heard. Start with just five minutes of silence—sit, breathe, observe thoughts without engaging them. Over time, you’ll begin to hear the soft voice amidst the chatter.

Journaling and Automatic Writing
Ask a question—“What do you want me to know?”—and write freely, without editing. Let the words flow. Don’t censor. Sometimes the intuitive message emerges through surprising phrases or images.

Pay Attention to Sensations & Emotions
Intuition often hits us first in the body. Notice what you feel—tingling, lightness, discomfort, calm. These physical cues are signals from your deeper self.

Dream and Daydream More
In dreams, your subconscious speaks more freely. Before sleep, ask a question you need guidance on. Upon waking, record whatever comes. Let your mind wander gently in downtime—some of the best insight happens in that space.

Practice Small “Yes / No” Exercises
Use simple decisions to train your trust: Which direction to walk on a path? Which cup of tea to choose? Watch how a yes feels in your body versus a no. Build faith by honoring the small prompts first.

Surrender and Release Outcomes
Intuition often gives guidance but does not always give us the how. Trusting doesn’t mean controlling. Like Gabby says: “The simple intention to surrender control is all you need to experience miracles.”

You ask. You trust. You act lightly—and let the rest unfold.

Intuition is your birthright. It doesn’t demand you to be perfect; it only asks you to be willing—willing to listen, to obey, to trust. If life feels confusing, lean inward. If your heart feels uneasy, ask: What is this moment asking of me? And when you hear an inner whisper—lean toward it. Give it space. Test it gently. Let it grow.Your intuition is not a luxury—it’s your compass. Your soul’s beating pulse. And in its guidance lies the path to your truest expression. Lean in and tap into your inner compass. Watch what unfolds.
