The Power of Your Words

The next time you’re tempted to vent or complain, pause for just a moment. Take a breath. The words we speak—especially out loud—carry far more power than we often realize. Our words don’t just communicate thoughts—they carry energy. They shape our experiences. They quietly instruct life on how to respond to us.
Louise Hay, one of my greatest teachers, taught this so beautifully. She believed that the thoughts we think and the words we speak create the life we live. In her words: “Every thought we think is creating our future.” That’s not a small idea—it’s a life-changing one!
When we use words rooted in fear, doubt, or limitation, we lower our vibration and often invite more struggle into our lives. But when we choose words grounded in possibility, trust, and openness, we elevate our energy—and our experiences begin to shift.
I saw this clearly in my own life when my husband and I decided to transition to a plant-based diet. At first, the story we were telling ourselves sounded something like this: What are we going to be allowed to eat? Where do we even begin? This feels overwhelming.
Those words carried doubt and scarcity. And wouldn’t you know it—everything suddenly felt hard. I noticed more stories about how difficult it was. More doubts crept in. More reasons why this might not work. Louise Hay would say this is no accident. When we speak from fear, we reinforce it. Our words become instructions to the universe.
So, we decided to shift the story. Instead of focusing on what we couldn’t eat, we began saying things like: We’re learning new ways to nourish our bodies. This is an opportunity to explore new foods and feel better. We’re discovering creative, delicious meals that support our health.
And just like that, the energy changed. We started finding inspiring recipes, helpful resources, and supportive people. What once felt overwhelming became curious, even fun. By changing our words, we changed our vibration—and the experience followed. This is the power Louise Hay spoke of. Words are not neutral. They are affirmations—either for what we want or for what we fear.
I invite you to gently ask yourself: What story am I telling right now? What words am I using to describe my body, my relationships, my future, my dreams? Whether you’re calling in a new job, a new home, better health, or deeper love—your words are paving the way. Choose them wisely. Speak kindly. Speak with intention. Because the power of your words is always at work—shaping your life, one sentence at a time.
